Novi
Sad

Biography
...................................................................................................
Novi Sad was formed in 1989 by singer and songwriter Evelyn
Blumenau and composer and musician Klaus Schuch. The name - a
play on words - means ‘new setting’, ‘new garden’ or ‘nouvelle
tristesse’. The name became programmatic to their music
which is different to the simple minded categories of standard
music. Critics labeled their music ‘electric chamber beat’,
‘something new’, ‘art pop’, ‘mellow avantgarde’, ‘best pure pop’,
‘jazz-, folk- or chanson-rock’ etc.
Over the past 20 years the band has published 7
albums and played hundreds of live concerts all over Europe.
The new double-album "Rise" (2008) transcends the mainstream of
conventional pop-corsets in a playful way and presents itself with rhythmic as well as
narrative songs. Like on their last album "Europe's other side"
(2003) melodies and challenging lyrics are in the foreground.
Leaving, liberation and breaking-up are the themes of RISE. The songs are written by singer Evelyn
Blumenau and guitar player Klaus Schuch. As it is characteristic of all Novi
Sad's works, World Music also plays an influential part. But above all, it is
the expressive voice of Evelyn Blumenau that lends the songs their soul and
makes them unmistakable.
